Kindy/Pre Primary - Susy Minson/Lisa Mitchell
General
This section is focussed on developing a shared view of what it is you are going to do.
Year:
- K/Pre Primary
Classroom:
- EC2
Teacher:
- Susy Minson/Lisa Mitchell
Stall Concept:
- To run a combined stall with the PP class where we will carry out the following:
- Make and Sell Preserves (incl the Kindy BBQ sauce recipe from 2009)
- Make Christmas Decorations (including cards)
- Make Wheatbags
- Make Newspaper Pots
- Sell Cookbook
- Activity still being finalised - could be making pizzas - children to add basic toppings
Stall Name:
- Preserves & Crafts
Owner (Parent Coordinator):
- K/PP Class = Sonia Hills and Amy Hawkes
Support Team (Your team):
- Karen De Lore
- Jemma Day
- Nicola Appleton
Fete Committee Contact Person:
- Karen De Lore
Space Required:
- 4-5 Library sized tables plus shelter from weather for preserves stock
- Access to a class room close to final location during the last week to receive preserves would be useful
- Verandah location could be perfect
- Space for activity required - to be determined by final selection
Pricing Policy:
- Preserves to be costed at a little below shop price however the previous fete demonstrated that chutneys, pickles, sauces and Lemon Curd all sell VERY fast (within 30 minutes) so can be costed higher than marmalades or jams.
- Cookbook price to be determined through the cookbook project
- Craft items to be priced on receival
- Activity to be a low cost, crowd appealing
Float Required:
- $150.00
Preparation
This section is focussed on getting you from here to the day before the Fete.
Plan:
-
Preserves - term 3 should see lots of preserve production from both the busy bees to be held and from other school families. The Canteen has been booked for the following dates for Preserves Busy Bees
- Date 1 - BBQ Sauce
- Date 2 - Spicy Tomato Relish
- Date 3 - Vegetable Pickles
- A folder with recipes and preserves hints, together with spare bottles etc will be located in the PP room for preserve makers to use.
-
Preserve makers requested to send the following information to Karen De Lore for label printing
- Name of preserve
- Contents
- Date preserved
- Bubbler - we need to promote preserve production in the Bubbler during term 3 - Karen De Lore to liaise with Ali Colvin
- Wheatbags - can be made by anyone that can sew. They are most usefully made from fabric such as polar fleece, flannelette and corduroy. We should appeal to families to bring in oddments and/or make. A quantity of Wheat needs to be available for makers to use. A sewing day (or 2) could be useful to produce but maybe see how initial production goes.
Timetable:
- Term 2
- Work to carried out on cookbook preparation, including seeking sponsorship etc.
- Research number of people will to cook preserves including willingness to participate in preserve busy bees

Setup
This section is focussed on getting you from the day before the Fete to 10.00 am on the morning of the Fete.
Plan:
- The week before the fete should see the receipt of all preserves. They will require standardised labelling and gingham cut-out for top of jar. We will require a location to store the preserves close to the location of the stall - suggest we collect cardboard boxes - like the ones at North Perth Growers Market for sorting and preparing. The day before the fete we should sort groups of preserves to ensure we have consistent flow of preserves on the day - ie don't put all the pickles / chutneys out up front - try to put a cross section out regularly. All jars require pricing. Colour coding works well and allows sellers an easy process. A price range of about 4-5 different prices works the easiest.
